Committees
The Illinois Psychiatric Society is comprised of many committees, both standing and specialty committees along with task forces for pop-up issues. The work accomplished by our members in these committees provides direction to the Executive Director, Council, and staff on policy and advocacy efforts.

Access to Care Committee
Chair: Dr. Daniel Yohanna
This committee focuses on discussing different issues related to access to care and working with other organizations to share information.

Addiction Psychiatry Committee
Co-Chairs: Dr. David Lott and
Dr. Steven WeinsteinThis committee is new and will be working on issues related to Addiction Psychiatry.

Collaborative Care Committee
Chair: Dr. Shastri Swaminathan
This committee focuses on discussing different issues related to collaborative care and working with other organizations to share information.

Communications Committee
Chair: Kristen Malloy
This committee works to create a cohesive communications plan for the society. They recognize and plan communication for both members and the public.

Constitution and Bylaws Committee
Chair: Dr. Linda Gruenberg
This committee works to review and update the society's constitution and bylaws as needed.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Committee
Chair: Dr. Arden Barnett
This committee works on issues related to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The Committee is also very involved in advocacy including legislative and regulatory.

Distinguished Fellows & IPS Awards Committee
Chair: Dr. Philip McCullough
This committee selects the Society’s nominees for APA Distinguished Fellowship each year based on the APA guidelines. Members of this committee must be Distinguished Fellows or Distinguished Life Fellows.

Early Career Psychiatrist (ECP) Committee
Chair: Dr. Tapan Parikh
This committee is new and will work on issues related to ECPs with mentoring programs, networking events, etc.

Ethics Committee
Chair: Dr. Henry Conroe
This committee is responsible for investigating ethics complaints and has also made an ethics DVD which it is working on distributing throughout the country.

Fiduciary Oversight Committee
Chair: Dr. Andrew Lancia
The purpose of this committee is to ensure the IPS Council meets its fiduciary responsibilities for IPS and its members, beyond investments.

Forensic Committee

This committee works on issues related to forensic psychiatry.

Geriatric Psychiatry Committee

This committee works on issues related to geriatric Psychiatry.

Governmental Affairs Committee
Co-Chairs: Dr. Kenneth Busch and
Dr. Susan SchererThis committee works with a lobbying firm to advocate for bills that are in the best interest of Illinois psychiatrists as well as against bills that are not in the best interests of psychiatrists and their patients. They meet every other month and it can be attended by conference call.

Health Equity Anti-Racism Committee (HEAR)
Co-Chairs: Dr. Adrienne Adams and
Dr. Joshua ElogeThis committee is working to stem racism in the mental health field and broaden diversity within psychiatry.

Medical Student Committee
Co-Chairs: Elizabeth Hofman and Nandita Gupta
This committee is the first of its kind and joins all medical students with an interest in psychiatry to network, inform, and become involved in organized medicine.

This committee works on issues related to private practice and eventually will provide mentors to early career psychiatrists.

This committee works on providing CME, education, and networking events to the members of IPS.

This committee focuses on developing ways, including planning events, to recruit new members and retain members

Residents Committee

This committee works on issues related to residents and preparation for life after residency with mentoring programs, networking events, etc.

This committee focuses on discussing different issues related to the transition to retirement and serves as a support system for those struggling to adapt to a retired lifestyle.

Works on issues related to Telepsychiatry.

Women's Committee

This committee is new and will work on issues related to Women's mental health and issues of work/life balance within the psychiatry field. The committee organizes the IPS Women’s Brunch.
